Through studying and analysing the case of Total in South Africa and the possibility of implementing renewable energy as a counter to Electricity crisis, there are a number of lessons learned for comparable companies.

Total is a prime example for other Oil Gas giants to shift their focus from solely working on non-renewable solution and shift them to new energy or renewable energy solutions. The world is facing a drastic shift with more and more developed & developing nations building blueprints to shit their electricity solutions to renewable energy similar to the blueprint of the South African government. Companies need to follow the footsteps of Total and provide New energy solutions at B2G,B2B & B2C level. This will help these companies reach financial stability while also entering a more consumer oriented product market. Total has paved the way for new forms of CSR; CSI (Corporate Social Investment) which means investing into communities in dire need of improvement in terms of electricity solutions meaning the company forms long term agreements with the government to invest in their economy and bringing the investment from charitable to an actual effective cause that benefits the different stakeholders. This form of CSV needs to be adopted by more companies in this industry as it will help the companies maximise its revenue while simultaneously improving the environment.

Oil & Gas giants could act as the solution to help affected communities in the world that are still deprived of basic need such as electricity and light. Total’s 3S programme provides such stations that act as a self sustaining charging station that uses solar panel to provide electric lamps and charging outlets, this can accommodate a large community prosper. In this way if all other companies in this industry adopt the same CSR initiative this can help many deprived communities attain a green, reliable & durable source of power.

Moreover, I tried to individually redesign the Total logo, giving it a more sustainable meaning while keeping the Total identity.
